I'm pretty sure they made the original 360 power brick able to withstand anything. Heck, you can classify it as a murder weapon.

The only trick I know is the same one you stated, just take care of it. The day I got the red ring on mine, my 360 sounded like a freakin Jet ready for take off. I knew something was wrong with it then but I didn't know what to do but play games/ watch Netflix.

My Original white 360 received the Red ring of death back in January, after owning it since fall of 2007. Sadly a month before it died, I spent my money on the new wireless adaptor and a new hard drive for it. :( But I have the new Slim and so far I'm loving it.

I've been playing both the Pocket Eddition and the desktop version quite a bit recently, I've mostly just been building small towns and buildings and such on both.
