Noooooooo this is disappointing. I wanted them to make something really good out of it. Don’t get me wrong, for the life of me I couldn’t see how they would strike the right tone—it’s a much easier thing to do in a trailer than in a full-length movie—but I wanted good cinema to come from this. Sigh.

That’s a lovely idea, except a very large chunk of the population cannot even come up with $1000 in an emergency, much less pay off debts.

God damn I remember all those fucking Hummers. I got a Prius in 2005 and I remember there was an article in some dumb conservative magazine that was arguing that ACTUALLY Hummers were better for the environment than Priuses. His math basically assumed that a Hummer would be owned for 300,000 miles but Priuses would be

Yes let’s trust the american people to do the right thing. (oh fuck)

Attitudes like yours are exactly why Democrats lose elections. No, the two parties are not even remotely comparable in their badness, but people like you like to pretend otherwise for some fucking reason, because hey, complaining about not having a perfect option makes you feel better than choosing the best available

Don’t bet on that.

I’m getting to be an old, and I remember 2004, which was when the economy was starting to show signs of trouble, but we just kept chugging merrily on, buying houses with mortgages that were insane, borrowing to buy Hummers, and signing up for piles of student loan debt, possibly from your local ITT technical college,

“In the next few years, we’re either going to have an economic recession (like we do roughly once every ten years...”.like we do every time the Republicans gain any modicum of power over the economy.

Good thing both parties are the same right guys?

There was a time when we didn’t have a recession/near-depression every ten years. I wonder what the difference was. Hmm.

That certain puts a new light on the focus on North Korea’s weaponization.

In the next few years, we’re either going to have an economic recession (like we do roughly once every ten years), or Trump (‘s advisors) will decide that the best way to forego/delay/avoid a recession is wartime spending (see: 2001), and we’ll get an actual war started.

“Class” isn’t the right word, you’re right. “Contingent?”

Not to be confrontational, but you really should. Is it wimpy to create human life through enormous pain and effort? Pussy is 100% the worst metaphor for weakness patriarchy ever dreamt up.

I loathe that people equate “pussy” with cowardice. I wish they would stop. Clearly it takes courage to even have one. It can take a beating, unlike the male genitals. I think the insult is a derivation of the word “pusillanimous” but I don’t think most people know that and given that “throw like a girl” and “scream

Personally, not after ninth grade. Some guys never quite graduate mentally, of course. Into college, I’d rarely hear it with reference to actual women; really only in jokes, abstractly. And never that often. After college, never.

Not me personally but I’ve heard it a million times on construction sites. I think it’s a thing with certain types who probably don’t read Jezebel...or more accurately, don’t read at all.

It’s awkward even when you’re talking about these:

Teaching the Miller’s Tale today and got to the part where Nicholas goes up to Alison and “grabs her by the quim” and my students didn’t snicker as they have in previous years. They were instantly ticked off and said “creep” and “like Trump” and laughed and continued. I have a room full of young adults who view sexual

Music isn’t “supposed” to be anything. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s not. If you don’t want to delve into things that are not immediately accessible, that’s fine, but it’s your fault not the artist’s.
