Agreed. Having spent most of the ‘eighties and ‘nineties in the city, by 1995 it was pretty clean. My earliest toddler memories are of the graffiti in the subway and by my preteen years, it was all shiny. I’ve always hated Times Square, though. And every tourist rushing into the “going out of business” electronics…

It was definitely a toilet back in the old days of panhandlers and peep shows. But like most everyone, I liked it so much better back then. Before the Disneyfication. There used to be a shop, Colony Music, that had the best selection of sheet music. I remember being in there once, just after seeing Bring in Da Noise…
