He really should bring Kim along so he can text I’m in bed with your wife... in space!

Counterpoint: Thurman’s take on Emma Peel in the misbegotten 1998 The Avengers was even worse.

I got excited to see a new Breihan article in my feed, but of course what we actually have here is the perfect encapsulation of the new zombified AV club: reposting the content of actual professionals that they no longer care to pay for, in hopes of a quick cash-in harvesting clicks from the unwary.

Farewell Dowd. You and basically everyone working at this site were so much better than J/O Media deserved.

No lies detected.  And god knows “developed for.. the CW!” was not exactly confidence-inspiring.

It’s mostly a reference to the gobsmacking death rate among the primary cast, but also the general production chaos that just dogged the show while it was being shot and even afterwards: part of the reason that we’ll never see a proper HD remaster is even though all of the live action shots were shot in HD and matted

Huh, apparently I was misremembering.  IM2 did go into production without a finished screenplay, but it was apparently due to just garden-variety production chaos, not the strike: https://collider.com/iron-man-2-filming-problems-explained/

So uh... does the movie also follow the second major storyline of the book, which is a grimly detailed account of how the founding of Mormonism was just as bloody and crazy?

We’re gonna miss you, and as someone who’ll be taking it off my RSS reader (remember those?) once the last of the old guard are gone, I’m gonna miss this place.

I feel like you sorta have to grade IM2 on a curve. Was it a good movie? Absolutely not. Was there any chance that it was going to be a good movie given that it was filmed while the WGA was pencils-down on strike?  Also absolutely not.  Did they manage to wring something that was at least recognizable as a movie out

100% correct.  Dear lord.

Yeah, I didn’t phrase that well. To be clear, I think Courtney Love is a shockingly talented artist, actor and (of all things) essayist. (Seriously, it’s worth digging up her article about napster on the old salon.com from back in the early 00s.)

And thus ends another chapter in the history of the Most Cursed Franchise in scifi tv history.  Hands up everyone who didn’t see this coming?  Everyone with their hand up is held back a grade.

Funny what happens when you force out most of your actual staff and become a zombie site. :(

And lord knows you are never gonna have the opportunity to see more of Rip Torn than you do in that film. Which raises the question: can it really be a sequel/remake if there’s not unexpected full frontal nudity from an actor you’d absolutely never desired to see naked?

What gets me about the absurd death rate of the class of 89-91 is two things:

My guess is that there’s enough of TWoW in draft form that once Martin dies if his executor and publisher think there’s a profit to be made from it they’ll be able to lash together something that’s more or less describable as “a novel”.

Feel like he missed an obvious beat by not casting Alex Kingston.

Dude just take the fucking L.  Life goes on.

No need to using the imperfect tense there.
