The theatrical version of Justice League sucks for a lot of reasons, but it’s clear that Whedon did nothing good for the movie

Seriously. I saw Shoot Em Up in a theater full of rowdy friends who had all snuck in copious amounts of booze, and I was still bored and annoyed by it.  A harsh lesson in the limits of intentional camp.

You’re not wrong, but it’s a distinct improvement over the status quo ante, which was where every action movie was trying to be a joyless Taken retread.

There’s a small part of my brain that’s reminding me that Shoot ‘em Up’s trailer looked similarly fun and yet the movie itself wore out its one joke after about 15 minutes and somehow managed to waste the talents of Paul Giamatti, Clive Owen and Monica Bellucci...

My favorite bit of trivia about that movie is that the script called for Matt Dillon and Kevin Bacon’s characters to be revealed to be lovers midway through, but McNaughton decided -- sadly, probably  correctly -- that there was no way he was gonna get away with that.

It’s really amazing how the Heights and Inwood have changed over the last 20 years.  When my wife moved there in 99 it felt like a fairly out-there decision; now it’s kinda like sesame street only with more drag racers.  (Not really a fan of the drag racers, but you take the good with the bad.)

Counterpoint: Wild Things is awesome. That movie, like its lead character, was twenty times smarter than it let on, and it absolutely committed to the plan.

Just the trailer gave me whiplash.  There’s something seriously surreal about seeing all of those locations from what is generally the Brigadoon of Manhattan up on the screen.

I don’t want to get my hopes up too much, but it sorta sounds like this might fill at least a tiny bit of the enormous Venture Bros-shaped hole in all of our hearts, at least until the movie happens?

If it gets a second season, I rate the odds of Mantzoukas getting at least a cameo role at 100%.  His agent is probably kicking him or herself for not getting him in already.
