I guess that the terms of the deal for the buyout specifically prevented Disney from firing him during a specific amount of time.
Perlmutter had nothing to do with Marvel Studios for a decade. Due to him interfering with production (like the Terrence Howard/Don Cheadle thing), Disney took advantage of some corporate reorganization to have Kevin Feige answer directly to the head of film at Disney, Alan Horn, with Perlmutter no longer part of his…
Exactly this. He should have been shown the door the day the ink dried on the Marvel purchase.
If the name Nelson Peltz sounds familiar, he’s the one who forced his daughter Nicola into the role of Katara in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, which created a domino effect that ended with the movie being about heroic white people vs. evil brown people. Which is a shame for Nicola, who proved herself a…
Thank you. "They said they were firing her for working on outside projects, but they REALLY fired her for working on outside projects" is not as damning as Matt seems to think it is.
Losing Terrence Howard was a bummer at the time (he was really good in the first Iron Man movie and had fantastic on-screen rapport with Downey Jr), but in hindsight Disney probably dodged a bullet with that given Howard’s issues with domestic violence later on.
Very sorry to the other 6,999 employees that are losing their jobs, but he can rest in piss.
Lindelof: “I just couldn’t live with the fact that I might tarnish the beloved legacy of Star Wars, you know?”
Yeah, I lean heavily towards hauling ass to provide the deliverable so they can turn down the rewrite post-negotiations.
Except that it seems Disney didn’t discover this, Lindelof did.
Retcon the sequels out of existence by saying they were Luke’s force vision or something.
It’s not that it’s completely out of the realm of possibility, it’s that considering the timing, where they were in the process, and his own gat damn words, that is the least likely scenario and laden with some hack job of pretending to understand this industry to the point where they felt the need to call some rando…
Both sides of the industry are very definitely getting ready for the WGA strike, which has had a significant impact on all sorts of projects already. It wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever if this either was one of the many deals in significant danger of being canceled by the studios with the upcoming availability of force…
It is hard to figure out where to go after the sequels fucked everything up. You can’t keep making movies/shows that exist in-between other movies. You have to expand the overall timeline at some point. So, my two awesome ideas*:
DC’s marketing in general is pretty bad (they manage to make every superhero movie look the same as every other, something Marvel has managed to avoid despite their movies being so homogeneous) but Shazam barely got any, and what it got removed all the charm and character from the movie and made it look like “Fake…
I love responses like this. You spent all that time trying to make yourself sound knowledgable and “wise” and in the process played yourself by showing that you didn’t grasp the basic premise of what he himself was saying. I mean, he flat out said “if it can’t be great it shouldn’t exist” and then said “maybe I…
The “maybe I shouldn’t be cooking” ethos would have been great for Disney to have discovered before Rise of Skywalker and The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan.
“What if Leia and Luke were cousins, not brother and sister, and so could acceptably bang in 26 of the 50 US states?”
But, wait, considering the lack of effort we see going into these products that get rushed into production and have dispassionate people working on them, shouldn’t we be happy that people, regardless of how amazingly talented they are, can be honest with themselves enough to say “I’m gonna fuck this up, ain’t I?” and…
