Super Metroid is probably as close to perfect as any game is going to get, lol. Of course no game is perfect, though. I always take note of things I enjoy and things I don’t enjoy while I’m playing games, no matter how good they are. =)

The glass tunnel I bombed as soon as I got the power bombs when I got the kid. I specifically remember thinking “oh, I can break that tunnel, now!” and rushing back to get to the water place.

His article was about how he disliked a bunch of classics, though, not just RPGs. I love great games from all genres based on their artistry and attention to detail. My advice to him was to try to pay more attention to that artistry and attention to detail if he wanted to enjoy a wider selection of games.

“I’m someone who never got into Metroid, and when I got the SNES classic, I wasn’t really that into Earthbound. To each their own.”

I don’t know that that’s a “fact.” The games have that prestige for a reason, and the quality between titles very consistent. When the games do very rarely falter, their scores show it. An 89 isn’t amazing for a flagship title from one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. A 73 basically equates to “yeah, this

Hah, thanks! I’m making Soul Healer, a three player co-op action RPG. Kind of like Secret of Mana, but with faster combat and a bit more focus on puzzles. So somewhere in between Secret of Mana and Zelda, I guess. You’re a priestess (“Soul Healer”) going around solving problems by purifying (through force, sometimes!)

The Dark Souls games *are* some of the best games ever made! Objectively! You know it’s true, in your heart!

Nothing happens without a reason! I didn’t say if he followed my advice that he would automatically love these games, though. I just told him what I thought might help get him into these games. He cared that he didn’t like them enough to write an article about it, so I figured I’d give him some advice! =)

Playing through Deus Ex for the first time ever right now. Completely disagree with you on that one. I’m having a ridiculous amount of fun with it!

I agree with most of your post, but saying Oceanhorn or Darksiders improved the Zelda formula is crazy, hahah. Classics may get copied over and over again, but people with taste will still be able to tell the difference between the originals and their cheap copies that come later. The original games were so

Nah, Breath of the Wild was amazing. “It scored high because it’s Zelda” is bullshit. Nintendo gets slammed constantly whenever they make a mistake. Breath of the Wild is a masterclass in game design.

What was “intentionally obtuse” in Super Metroid? I played through the game when I was six without much trouble...my seven year old nephew played through half of it earlier this year and never really got stuck, either.

Alright, yeah. Looks like we just have different tastes, hahah. I love a few of the games in your list too, but they’re all the wildly acclaimed titles that are “no brainers” for gamers already (DKC and Mario 64).

Now playing

Ocarina is an incredible game, even by today’s standards.

“They’re both fantastic games. Just not games suited to my (questionable?) tastes.”

This is why I’m going for execution over novelty for my game. It’s easy to copy an idea like “hole in the ground that eats things.”

lol

Nah, the island wasn’t spoiled for him. He went there, had his weapons stolen, said “bullshit, Sheikah sky voice, lol!”, reloaded his save, and dropped all of his weapons on the raft while I laughed and said “noooo, fuck youuuuu!” It was hilarious, and it was very clever, hahah.

Nah, I’m just not a piece of shit. “Nuke these people because their work culture kind of sucks” isn’t funny to me, drunk or not. Cya, lol.

I thought the spike shrine was hilarious. Me, my brother, and my nephew all suffered through it, too. I thought it was great that they added a few challenges you couldn’t just breeze through. I miss the SNES/NES days of gaming sometimes. I glad they brought some of it back.
