It seemed silly to me to sacrifice performance in dry, cold weather (90% of my winter driving), for better performance in the snow (10% of my winter driving).

The thing is, it’s not expensive, over the long run.   Having two sets wears both half as fast, at least in areas that see real winters.

I already used my winter tires to quickly avoid an accident where someone was spinning out right in front/next to me.

Most intersections become low speed ice skating rinks, tho. Between the heat from the bottom of the car and the previous cars sliding on the snow removing any coefficient of friction, some intersections are down right dangerous.  The sipes on snowtires make a huge difference in these situations.
