My experience in South America too. I haven’t been anywhere else except Canada (I’m from the US), and a lot of it down there is the local machismo culture. Not all of the attention I received was welcome or pleasant; however, I turned heads like crazy there as a pale redhead girl, and many local men were

I have a friend of Croatian heritage, and that describes her style very well.

Ah yes, I got used to the minimalist beauty. I noticed, in lots of warmer European countries, it was totally OK to show off your freckles and your sun-damaged face and the hair god gave you. I saw so many sexy, confident-looking Croatian women totally rocking the crinkles around their eyes and their salty hair while

I’m going to have to call my minimalist educator’s wardrobe Croatian Chic.

Well, Madam, that is also the best cat name of the evening. Possibly the best name of the year. I may steal that for my next kitty.

Best comment of the evening, sir or madam.

That makes sense to me. There is a certain polished American woman look, and it probably comes with with baggage and asumptions. That’ll be the media.

God, that cuts to my soul. Your daily reminder that the patriarchy is an insidious thing.

Well, I think it depends on which American guys you are in contact with. I was very into certain nerdy/goth subcultures when I was younger, and when you roll in those circles you can be a little scruffier and still get attention.

That last one stings particularly given how much effort women have to put into their appearance just to be considered professional.

Some other fun ones about those once beautiful women who tragically turned 30:

When you read “evolutionary psychology” simply translate it to “MRA.” You will save yourself some time.

Fuck Bill Clinton so hard. Fuck him. “Welfare Reform” pppsssshaw. The only reason people are asking for drug tests of Welfare recipients is because Bill Clinton made that fucking normal. Fuck Bill Clinton.

A line I heard on NPR this morning, from a (dead serious) New Hampshire woman describing how they differ from Vermont denizens:

No, no... you misunderstand... her kids are white.

Yeah like economic issues that are life and death for us woc, you know, the ones these feminists never considered.

I admire a lot of these women. As a woman from Michigan, whose first vote was in 2000, Debbie Stabenow is someone I am proud to have voted for in my first vote, and I’m so glad she is still in office. Her comments about Flint are spot-on.

I’m also personally really torn about this. . . . . Part of me thinks that outing anyone or treating homosexuality as if it is “scandalous” is ALWAYS wrong, even in the cause of showing some powerful anti-gay bigot to be a raging hypocrite. This part of me thinks it’s always wrong because we are perpetuating the idea

Only Democrats have an actual choice this election, evidently. From an international standpoint, our nation—on the whole—is so far into the authoritarian right, it’s ridiculous. I don’t actually mind where you find yourself among these Democratic positions; either Democrat is good on social issues like criminal

nailed it!
