You mean the male teachers who teach by movie, use out dated and outmoded teaching techniques, yell and swear at the kids constantly, yet eat with the administration every lunch period? Who should get all twos and ones on Danielson, but get “coached” through their eval? Who never get called into the principal, but you

This happens a lot in female dominated spaces, the guys get some kind of special cookie just for daring to enter feminine spaces and not being hostile. It drives me nuts, because on the other hand any woman who dares enter a male dominated space gets shouted over and marginalized right away.

For women working in science, there is no surprise here. Then if those women do get hired they are paid less, promoted less, and treated differently. I am sick of hearing that we don’t have enough skilled scientists in this country. We’d have more if the women weren’t invisible.

I don’t know if there’s ever been any research into this, but just anecdotally, it seems like men in the STEM fields can be some of the most stubborn about not acknowledging that gender bias is real and has an impact on women’s careers that they can’t just solve by pulling up their bootstraps. They perceive themselves

This is true even in female dominated professions. I teach elementary school and male teachers are treated like golden fucking unicorns. I have seen principals pull all types of manoeuvres to keep a male teacher when there were plenty of female teachers with more experience available. Ugh.

He’s clearly abusive. Let’s have some compassion for her and the literal decades of grooming that have happened. What is she supposed to do now?

Couple that with cognitive dissonance and it can be a real shit show.

Yup. It’s not even necessarily that they’re lying about not being ready for marriage or kids—it’s just that when you’re in a relationship that’s not quite right, you might really truly feel like kids are anywhere in the near future. And then if you’re suddenly in a different relationship, your whole perspective can

Same here. And they are extraordinarily expensive, even for families with two working parents like ours.

I agree so much. I don’t have any kids but my mom was a nurse and worked long hours...She couldn’t just leave me at home to run the streets. I feel like a lot of these people that talk about how during every summer they left at sunrise, biked 30 miles away with their friends and came back at sunset probably had stay

Yeah sleeping basically determines how good 0-1 is, and 3-4 seems to be a crapshoot. 1-2 is: “how good is your child proofing REALLY?” (left my son on the bathroom counter to grab something outside the room, find him poking at the electrical outlet with a pair of tweezers...).

I got into a legitimate debate w my cousin’s future husband this weekend about why it’s not fucking okay for him to say “n*gga” (he is white, I am white, our whole family is white af) even though there are no black people at our family gathering.

Kimmy Schmidt restored my faith in black comedy. Toss those Family Guy rape jokes in the trash and bring back the real black comedies that make incisive observations about their subject matter!

Ah yes, because every dick that touches you removes one of your vagina petals!!!

Yeah, my 10th grade sex ed class did a similar thing with a rose that we passed around and each took a petal off of (gross). It was weird, because it wasn’t even an abstinence-only curriculum, but they were required to bring in an abstinence speaker. I wrote him a very strongly-worded letter about how he was being

Gun pedantry! The most charming of all pedants

Labor Day weekend, 1991. Daddy, 2 week old me, and my mom. Fun fact: the Taco Bell behind us closed about 17 years later due to Hepatitis C contamination. It happened once and people never went back.

Not the best quality (a photo taken of a photo in a photo album) but here’s some perfectly captured late-1980s/early-1990s “Family Summer Vacation” fashion. I am the one literally wearing a hat that says, “Epic.”

I understand, and those specific parents can be equally tiresome. She didn’t bleat anything, though. A “source” was quoted by a magazine, with the usual gendered bullshit angle — “she” hired the nannies (because apparently childcare is solely her responsibility?) and while the source hurries to assure us she’s going
