They should start another company (or companies) that would hire drivers (as employees), then Uber and Lyft can contract with that company and also contract with individuals who want to remain independent. This would be the best of both worlds.

You actually have to try playing a malicious video file. Just having it installed has 0 risk. Contrary to the click-bait headline, there is no need to uninstall VLC, just don’t play a malicious file, and update VLC when it’s fixed.

This is a losing game. I think these sites should just stop trying to moderate user content. If they want to “fight” bad speech, they should encourage more - or allow users to filter their own content. Maybe even allow user-generated “group” filters so everyone doesn’t have to do the work.
