There’s may be nothing appropriative about a straight man identifying as a “bear,” but it’s going to add an extra layer of confusing for anyone who assumes that all “bears” are gay. You essentially have to label yourself as “a bear (but straight [but supportive]),“ which kind of ruins the whole point of a label.
