True - when I did it on my Miata I had a bit of grease on the end of the drill bit to catch any debris, and used a shop vac to suck out what it could. Then I ran the motor for a few seconds with the plug out to (hopefully) blow anything else out.

And if you have aluminum heads DO NOT CRANK that spark plug tight. You will strip the threads. Luckily a helicoil or other type of thread fixing deal can fix it without pulling the head (crap I forgot the name of the thing I used to fix my Miata after I bought it).
