Asphalt is supposed to be easier on your knees than concrete. I don't know how true that is, but I always felt better after running on sand/dirt than asphalt/concrete. There may be long-term effects I can't notice yet.

A turn signal is used with far less frequency than a brake light, putting the MTBF much higher. If you combine the two, when the bulb fails, you also lose your ability to signal turns.
