Even more, police being killed in the line of duty is at a record low - there was ONE MONTH last year above average and that led to 4 deaths. Probably because more people were killed by police than ever - the number of unarmed individuals is vomit inducing.

I think it’s brave of Colbert to play devil’s advocate for the audience in this way because it can be easily interpreted as him being ignorant/ignorantly racist. I don't think it's that any one conversation is going to be suddenly change a persons way of thinking but the more conversations a person hears, the more likely something is to hit a nerve.

To be fair though, Fallon never pretended to want to be politically involved, He came from SNL and wanted to do comedy. Whereas Colbert is trying to continue the work he was doing on Comedy Central, only without the Colbert Report character.
