...until Disney pulls them from Netflix in favor of its own streaming service, which is a thing that’s happening in the next year or two.

Bethesda’s stance is due to Kotaku publishing leaked announcements early, not publishing a critical story. I don’t think those are quite the same morally.

“I’ve been around the world and I’ve never seen anything as stupid as this.”

Welcome to the wonderful world of “every time anyone does anything activist ever”.

It’s almost like video games and movies are two completely different industries or something.

Except Disney relies on the buzz they get multiple positive reviews being out as early as possible, which is why they go to the trouble of holding press screenings in the first place. So yeah, it does hurt them, especially if more websites join this boycott.

You sure showed the AV Club, in this completely imaginary scenario!

Cheap publicity? Ethics are everything.

You’ve read the article. Ergo, it is by definition popular enough to bring bad press to Disney.

I wasn’t aware of that article until the Times Streisand-effected it for me. Thanks!

I don’t think a lot of people understand that the journalism industry is very self sufficient in terms of having protection from things like this and small acts of unity like this go a long way in helping the industry remain fair and objective.

I’d argue that there are repercussions for Disney here. Anyone who reads this piece will know about (and perhaps read) the offending LA Times article. The bad press surely won’t bring Disney down, but perhaps the company will think again before it tries to punish journalists for doing journalism.

Its not about Disney being “mad”. Its about Disney controlling press access because they were “mad”.

It’s not rocket science, you guys. The idea is not that Disney is “punished” by them not going to the screenings, it’s saying they won’t be the stick Disney uses to beat the LA Times. They implicitly benefit from having a competitor (of sorts) out of the running in something that rewards publishing as soon as

In the current climate it actually might be.

Many. So many people on this discussion straight up suck.

I think this is a good stance - and I think it’s shameful as hell that Disney is treating the LA Times the way they are. I’ll still read AVC - and LA Times- reviews and if I have to read them late, no big deal.

👏👏👏

Meh. I couldn't listen to more than a few seconds of any of them. The sounds spliced together sounded much more like noise than music. Sure, you put a beat to it, but noise to a beat still isn't music.
