I think his point was that even if the show raises tension that way, (which they did last season with the ex cop and Quinn) it won't have much affect. There is no danger of fear dexter gets caught since we have two more seasons of dexter, so no real tension.

When I got to that last paragraph I thought he had been murdered in real life until finishing the sentence. I'm afraid to say I haven't seen or barely remember these movies. Will have to rewatch.
