I like this system. I saw Transformers first but I blame that entirely on my sister. But I also love sequels. I think my love of good sequels stems from how to Television shows are right now and long book series like Dune, LOTR, Harry Potter, etc. I want more than 2 hours with a character.

We as consumers are just as at fault here. As much as movie goers complain about the massive amount of sequels we are still there opening weekend to see them.
