Totally. I can't believe I didn't realize Robocop was an American Jesus story until a few years ago thanks to Cracked. I was like, "wha?!? It makes sense!" lol

Same thing with the original RoboCop. Verhoeven had that slightly campy style that caused a lot of people to dismiss his work as trashy, but he knew how to give his characters humanity and get you to feel for them.

If you think it's a trash movie, then you just don't realize how utterly brilliant it was. Verhoven is the man.
