Iowa City is very different than the rest of the state, and Iowa has been getting crazier and crazier as anyone remotely sensible flees to a big city or the coast for 20-30 straight years now. (I did after I finished school in 98-everytime I go back I shake my head at how much backwards it has become.)

Thank you for writing this-I noticed the same thing on CNN today. One of their anchors basically FORCED this woman who was in a shelter to admit she had to leave her service dog behind (she swam out with a baby and supplies and didn’t have a spare hand). It was appallingly cruel.

I agree with you entirely. That’s what I was trying to point out.

“Texas” is the name of a state, it doesn’t “want” anything-the population of Houston, the 4th biggest city in the US and one of our most diverse and liberal cities certainly didn’t want anyone under water during Sandy, and they certainly don’t deserve to be now. Enjoy your snarking.
