I saw this yesterday in a theater full of black MBA’s who bought out the theater for the occasion and was overcome. Since I was a child I’ve wanted this movie to be made. I’ve followed Black Panther as a character since I discovered him in grade school and have identified and loved every piece of associated work.

Your Deadspin colleague David Roth is on the case (concerning Mr. Stevens):

Mother of god somebody put this person in the White House ASAP.

I teach at a community college. I regularly think about how my students could hide, exit routes from the classroom and my office, etc. The day someone decides that I, as a professor, need to be armed to teach is the day I will quit.

Also, I can’t imagine a more dangerous scenario than arming a bunch of academics.

Quite often, I make sure I have my phone in an easy to reach pocket of my bag in case there’s a shooting in public or a store. Or, if I’m just going to dash in someplace and think I don’t need to grab my stuff, I grab my phone just in case.

Bears usually attack with their claws. Maybe it would help if we banned bear arms

I work at a school and think through shooting scenarios pretty regularly, whether it’s a paranoia when I see someone in a long coat or with an especially packed backpack, or the countless nightmares I’ve had... it’s on my mind A LOT. So I don’t blame you at all. I think it’s an understandable thought process.

As I am starting my own skincare line, I’m taking this whole mess as a lesson to not personally interact on social media under my brand name. Don’t Do This 101.

Just pass it by. You don’t have to respond (in words or in dismissing) just because someone speaks to you. 🙂

I’m pretty sure I’ve read every one of those. And thanks for refreshing who was noted. But I have to say - and this is coming from someone neither involved in that nor overly invested other than disliking forcing out/dismissing or saying someone should leave unless it’s for bona fide trolls (not mean people or big

I haven’t been following this all too closely, but if you really do have the best intentions and want to post at the same frequency, you could try starring grey comments and responding to grey comments. That way, you’re still getting to post with the same frequency but also lifting other’s voices up. As a permagrey

We have 3 misfit rescue dogs, one was returned 4 times to the rescue I foster for. Who’s a GOOD BOY?? Not my dog! He has legendary escape skills and can evade capture for hours...we finally had to reinforce our physical fence with an electric one and he wears 2 collars because...squirrels.

I’m so sorry, Moppet. And I’m also sorry for the horrific comment you got earlier from that monster. I’ve lost a dog to cancer (lung, it was sudden), and it’s never good for either of you. All you can do is love your dog and make them comfortable and give them all the pets and cuddles. Love to you both.

So so sorry for what you and your good boy are going through. I can’t believe some random prick troll would say that to you, but I’m with you on your response to them. Couldn’t take that shit from someone without firing back. I do personally understand what you are dealing with ( My baby girl, a Pomeranian had

Welcome back! She’s precious.

Fuck it, Hybrid (Mutt) Vigor.

Can’t read the full article (I emotionally can’t. I’m cuddling next to my dog that’s dying of stomach cancer, so I can’t) but I will just say that I am so happy that him’s a good boy.

I don’t have a dog in the MD fight but I’d just like to say that I don’t feel like Jez is a safe space, even sans trolls. A lot of women come down pretty hard on women if they aren’t as “woke” as they’re supposed to be. It’s disturbing sometimes, the “shoot first, ask questions never” mentality that one sometimes

Men are just so used to people letting them fill up a space they are baffled when asked to let someone else have some air. I don’t want a men’ free space. I just want men to not be squatting on every thread about women when they have nothing to add other than parroted feminist phrases. We don’t need you to parrot us.

Totally agreed. Before I scrolled down to see it was the entire portrait of Pres. Obama, I thought the foliage was a photograph. Absolutely wonderful painting.
