You know I like you, and we're not going to see eye to eye on this one. My sister used to be a prison chaplain. It wasn't easy, and the pay was minimum wage, but some prisoners liked to have someone to talk to and to pray with and for them. If prisoners weren't interested, she left them alone, definitely. And oh God,

Interestingly, the more wealthy Christians are, the less they give to charity percentage-wise. This is true of the general U.S. population as well, and has been true for a long time. Quoting a NYT article from last year:

And just to be clear: U.S. prisons are overflowing right now because of the "war on drugs." A lot of people use drugs because they have no access to treatment for mental illnesses such as depression, and want to kill the pain somehow. Having dealt with suicidal depression in the past, I know how a person can turn to

People bring this up a lot. Most people in the U.S. are Christian, so naturally most people in prison are Christian. That being said, poor people are both more likely to be religious and to commit crime. Atheists are more likely to be white and college-educated. White, college-educated people are less likely to serve

I understand what you're saying, but I think there's a big difference between making a generalization about a group of people and calling an individual a bad name. Just to be clear, it offends me personally as well, but I think we can express that in a civil way. We have to make an effort to understand one another.

Ooh! I want to watch the Dr. Who Xmas specials too! And maybe also make cookies! I'm going to do tomorrow what you did today. You don't mind, do you?

I haven't heard of it! I haven't heard of most things, though. :) Sounds interesting! I'd heart you but I already did.

Right, that's why I indicated that it was a per percentage of individual income on average. As I said, I can't remember how other religions shook out. I don't think it looked at them, but I'm not positive. I should find the link but the last time I looked for it, it took me a half hour, so I sort of don't feel like

It's very frustrating to me also, but that doesn't give you the right to call people names. A soft answer turneth away wrath, etc. Even though this post is hard for me to take, I know Ms. Ryan is a fantastic person and a hilarious, brilliant writer who is just mad at Christians who have been very obnoxious. If we all

Oh, that's interesting, I didn't know that! I've never gone to a church where drunks showed up. I mean, besides me, of course, but I'm not a nuisance. ETA: As far as I know.

Maybe they would. I would like to think so. Right now, Christians give more money and time to charitable causes (percentagewise of individual income) than atheists do. I don't know how other religions shake out. Google the big Pew Research study for more info.( "Pew Research" sounds hilariously biased if you aren't

But isn't it more fun for all of us to sit around and criticize one another? :)

I'm surprised more churches don't cancel the Sunday morning service. Most churches have at least one Christmas Eve service, and they usually have one at 11 pm or midnight, so the morning service seems redundant. You're doing church, but you just did it 8 hours ago! Most people would prefer to go to the Christmas Eve

So this diet coke I'm drinking now is preserving my innards? They'll last forever, then! Science is awesome.

I never made the connection, but I only saw that show a couple of times. :) I'm with you...I couldn't take it if one of them had an affair! Silly, since we're not friends or whatever, but true.

Thank God for your relative! What an inspiring story. And I hear that unhealthy eating patterns are also no problem at all to change! All people need is for one person, just once, to point them out!

It's possible that that people just love awesome ladies.

Oh for heaven's sake. The presidential holiday cards are always secular!

Should I also inform smokers that they are smokers? I'm sure they have no idea they are smokers and smoking is bad for them.

I agree with Luis Sierra. I don't really care if someone cuts ahead of me in line. It doesn't happen that often, and it's not worth worrying about when it does.
