This all just goes back to the underlying problem at this institution. He doesn’t seem to have done anything wrong per se by applying pretty standard rules, but man oh man could the employees at this school really use a training on how to actually listen to people and think outside the conventional approach to avoid

Two wrongs don’t make a right. I’d bet a lot that the deluge of hate he got for that drove him to resign. It would take a lot of fear for me to up and quit like that.

They chose a REALLY misleading crop of the email.

Um. That is a seriously misleading tweet image crop of an email that has been WIDELY circulated today:

We have no idea how many hateful emails he got after the first one went viral. Enough to make him want to quit, at least.I’m sure if you got, say, 5000 emails calling you a racist you might want to run away too. Again, don't know how many he got, but it went viral so likely a lot.

I totally agree. He was dismissive and an asshole. He doesn't need to leave his position to redeem himself.

I just got suspicious of the way that pic cuts off the email and figured there was more. Which is not to say he wasn't totally tone deaf here, because he was.

There were several incidents of mass hysteria last night at UM, including the student body president falsely citing the presence of the “KKK” on campus. While Prof. Brigham could certainly have used a slightly softer tone, I don’t believe he was wrong to insist that teaching continue despite the false reports and mass

If you click through to the full email, he says anyone who doesn't want to come to class can take a make up exam.

I read about this earlier. Many, many students were emailing him. At first, his replies were pretty blasé like the one in the article. Later, he started offering to do make up exams. Even later, he just was like, “Fuck it I quit.”

bibopsy...bimbopsy...biopsy...

I support these students 100%, but I think it is absolute horseshit that this professor has to resign. Yes, he could have been more sensitive, but he clearly did not force anyone to come to class at the risk of losing a test grade etc. - he offered the opportunity for a make-up test. And he stayed aligned with what

You are confused, but it’s not your fault. That portion of this article was particularly poorly written. It’s so devoid of context that it’s incoherent.

they are referring to the new hotline set up by the MUPD for people to call in any “incidents of hateful and/or hurtful speech.” which is preposterous.

This seems like a situation where the university should have offered guidance rather than leaving it up to professors.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding isn’t a movie. It’s a documentary. About my life. I haven’t found my xeno with a big, long, hair on top of his head.... yet.... but I’d like to know what my future is going to look like.

Agreed. This part always makes me cry with laughter. If they have even one moment as funny as this, the entire movie is worth it. (I also cry from emotion every time I see this—when the brother tells her she’s worth all the trouble! gets me every time—including thinking about it right now at my desk).

IT’S A CAAAAAKE!

That movie forever changed how I say bundt.

This. Andrea Martin was one of the best things in that movie.
