I'm looking at it the same exact way as you actually. So when his older brother said he "didn't understand Americans" and poisoned his younger brothers mind....maybe he forgot about all these pictures above of peopel who (seemingly) care about him.

I'm looking at this a bit differently, it almost seems like the younger bomber had adapted fairly well to America and had his mind poisoned by his older brother who had not.
