Very easily a combination. It’s possibly they had notions but no proof. At the same time they wouldn’t want to raise the issue because basically any of them were more easily replaced than him and had less clout in the industry. They might not have wanted to know about it too.

Usually young people aspiring to work in the film industry don’t make a habit of punching A-list actors in the face.

Marissa Tomei is in MCU now, I don’t think she’s cheap.

I wonder how Kevin Spacey could have possibly seen the decision to come out in the same post playing out. Did he really think that would be so explosive an announcement that it would make people forget about the 14 year old assault thing?

People are talking about how this recasts American Beauty in a new light, but it really does it for Baby Driver too. The relationship between his character and Baby was that of an older man with a lot of power grooming a desperate handsome underaged boy while being both paternal and coercive at the same time, and

I only saw Manhattan for the first time like 2 years ago, but I really did not get how that movie had the lead being a middle aged man with a teenaged girlfriend and seemingly zero characters in the thing thought that was remarkable in any way. The ostensibly happy finale is even about him realising how much he loves

I’m honestly surprised (and not in a good way) that they managed to pull 6 seasons out of this thing anyway. I gave up on it about season 3 but it really felt like it should have been coming to a conclusion soon at that point. I was expecting season 4 to be the last one.

It’s not just enjoying his performances though. Spacey’s offscreen appearances were always enjoyable too. Outside of being a great actor, he always came across as a cool and funny guy. I was even happy to see him come back into fame in the last few years after kind of falling out of fame and prestige in the 2000s. It

“ On talk shows and events he hosted, he always had this charming and goofy everyman persona.”

I saw this and though “wow, what episode of what show did they manage to get the comedy star power of Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Jason Mantzoukas and Chris Pratt all together?” and then I realised that the entire cast of Parks and Rec is actually now just very independently famous and successful.

I don’t think it was intentional, but it’s easy to pick it up from the fact that his apology for trying to sexually assault a minor was the same paragraph as he decided to announce that he was gay. It’s bad optics to draw attention to the fact that a sexual deviant was also gay. You’re technically right, it is

I wonder if part of it is BECAUSE of Trump being president. Liberals are pissed off like they haven’t been in many years, especially because of the fact that being a sexual predator seemed to have little consequence in becoming president. So they’re finally cleaning house where they can.

I like how you immediately walked back “innocent until proven guilty” to “he’s an ass” and then “he probably did it”. Also, you seem to be really exaggerating the punishment here. He didn’t get an honourary achievement award that he was going to get. Big whoop. I never got one of those either, where’s my sympathy? He

The guy was 14. I don’t see how this isn’t enough, especially given the current socio-political climate where sexual assault actually has some consequences now.

I really disagree that it glorifies it at all. It’s a depiction, not a glorification or an endorsement. At no point in the movie did I think “I really hope he gets to bone that teenager” or feel like I was supposed to be on his side with that. Not to mention that by the end it very clearly shows she is not some sort

It was at least 10 years after it came out and I still think it’s great. Gonna have to do some hardcore separation of art from artist now but other than that, definitely one of my top films of the 90s.

True, but you should still try to be aware of this stuff if possible and not be complicit in it. I think a lot of men are complicit in it without even realising it because we can be so oblivious.

Not to mention that you start to name a name and there’s a very real chance that the guy will press charges for slander, or do what he can to blackball you. There’s also no doubt going to be friends of his who will take his side one way or another. It’s really not a consequence-free action in an industry where

I think it’s good to share a story like that from a male perspective, because I think a lot of men don’t empathise with these stories or get why its such a big deal. This shit might happen more often one way than the other, but it can still happen to anyone who works beneath someone else and its never pleasant.

“I just can’t wait until it goes beyond famous people getting held accountable.”
