I seem to be one of the few who don’t quite understand the seemingly infinite love for this generation of SL. Gullwings/ 190s? Sure. Pagodas? Loved those since I was a kid. R129s? Absolutely. But these - apart from some of the factory racing specials, or those oddly fettled by tuners during the peak of the cocaine era

all the moneys

If only they’d play that on pilots.

Cascades is an exception here; much like Acela, the way the cars are constructed/ articulated means adding an extra car or two is actually a very complicated process.

Yeah, I’ve experienced that firsthand, but the question still stands. Why add bespoke English-language switchgear to a car that’s designed, produced, and sold exclusively for a Japanese market? And why make that switch now, after virtually every example that came beforehand had Japanese labeling? It’s not like they

The prior generation of Century did not - the majority of its switchgear were labeled only in Japanese.

Couldn’t tell you why that’s no longer the case, though.

A Tremec+Logitech joint venture?

If there is, you order it off the double-secret menu, because it’s not listed as an RPO or LPO code in the order guide.

I’d be SUPER interested in seeing how the innards of that 1000 series compare to the new 10-speed “Allisons” used on the T1HDs launching now.

...especially when they’re “heavy set (260 to 280 pounds).”
Totally adds up.

^This. It’s an aero cheat. New GM full-size trucks have the same thing going on in the front corners.

Now playing

This isn’t quite what you asked for, but Mitsubishi did make a power-retractable targa version of its RVR/ Expo LRV small wagon/van/thing back in the day.

Speak for yourself.

“We could, we just choose not to”

Fuck; if that isn’t a General Motors-style answer, I don’t know what is.

You’ll likely find out for sure either at Dream Cruise or SEMA.

I am in precisely the same boat as you. It’s been too long since a sports car has been achingly beautiful like this is.

For sure, though I see a *lot* more Alfa 33 Stradale...which, as one of my top 5 favorite car designs, I have no qualms with.

Dealer incomptence is another factor I didn’t mention, but mostly because I completely assume it’s a constant at pretty much EVERY brand/ automaker/ etc.

Mud/ bug/ debris on sensor /= poor weather.
And yet, that’ll still give you the same outcome.
