Aw, thanks! I've been working on how to explain this stuff for forever so that is nice to hear!

Thanks for actually reading and thinking about this! I know it can seem inconsequential, but entertainment media is pretty much the static that fills everyone's lives — each little decision adds to a bunch of stuff we internalize but don't often think consciously about.
Yeah, I was trying to be generous there but racial representation in the ~Arts is pretty fucked up and yeah, contributes to a self-defeating cycle. Like, I'm so excited that classical ballet is slowly lauding it's black performers that I'll probably scrape together something so I can see the Misty Copeland production…
See, you are missing the fact that representation in media matters beyond simply how race affects the story (though race in Aida definitely informs the story, and that is also important)! But minority representation, characters portrayed by minorities who are important (ie not background, silent slaves) are important…
I don't think you understand the racial dynamics involved in minority characters in mainstream media. Heimdall being black adds racial diversity to a production that otherwise would be very, very, almost exclusively white. An all-white cast in a contemporary setting (that also includes outer space human-aliens) isn't…
sure, okay, strictly speaking vomiting isn't instant proof that someone is incapacitated due to alcohol, but it certainly points more towards incapacity to give consent than not, and I think the photograph is evidence beyond "the word of" the victim.
I have to say I'm also not a huge fan of most western legal…
I don't know if not /intending/ to bully someone makes the kid not a bully, and you'd think someone would have explained that at this stage in the game.
Well, she was vomiting out a window in these photos, so too intoxicated to consent. Are photos not enough to show that rape occurred for you?
This is amazing.
they'd probably be pretty ashamed.
Man, thank you for your work.
If you look at Harris' review, she herself clarifies that rape comment by saying she meant statutory rape. So....nope.
Wow you're really taking Hale at her word, aren't you?
Well read the actual review — it's not a non sequitor. Harris was live posting as she read the book, many other commentors agreed on what she didn't like. Nothing she wrote about Hale's book was false.
I'd probably go into hiding because this woman tricked her way into getting an address and showed up there.
but the content of the review does match the book — the reviewer was upset by statutory rape and flippancy toward mental illness, something that other reviewers also noted. So yeah it's still out of control.
I never got to see them live and honestly that was like my number one high school regret, not skipping my homecoming game (I was in band so it was mandatory) to see them and Pearl Jam, so I am SO hype for this.
but are you libeling Lena Dunham right now by accusing her of lying about a rape? I think it would be hard to prove that this dude's reputation is being damaged since he's not explicitly named, though I guess we can wait and see if he sues.
but she's not a legal system.
When I got my first piece, my artist talked me through where the best placement would be so I could expand it if I wanted to, but would still look good if I didn't. It was great advice since I'm now planning a half-sleeve, whoops.
