Weird how that works. I wouldn't say it's shocking at all.

I think it's kind of telling that he can say this but can't think, hm maybe this is why female protagonists are important.
Bingo — this sums it up. There's nothing fake about taking it into consideration, or seeing that there's a gap in their storytelling and looking to correct it (hiring more women, looking for a women-centric story, etc.).
Then Pixar really should hire more lady directors.
Are you saying that the creative team at Pixar couldn't say, 'well we should do a story with a female protagonist, we've never done that before' and then create a genuine character from there?
"I don't think it was important in that we were looking at a slate of movies and said, "You know, we need a female protagonist. It's been 25 years.""

If there was a woman baller that good (and I think we're getting there), she'd probably just play in the European Leagues, to be honest.
Ehhh I wouldn't go that far. Also this study did not actually do any recording of /what/ television was being watched.
Avatar: The Last Airbender and it's sequel Legend of Korra are amazing and fully of Asian and Inuit/First Nations inspired characters.
