Some might say admirable, but most would say foolish. Basic functions like save backups and voice communication are staples of current gaming. Who cares what your competitors are doing, their focus as developers should be on what their fans NEED.

In this day and age that should be a day 1 feature, hands down. You would think it would be even more of a priority for them considering the device is meant to be taken around with you.
