You’d think that, but SO many open wheeled drivers have come to NASCAR and most have limited to no success and end up going back to their previous series. There are a few notable exceptions like Tony Stewart of course but the vast majority of IndyCar drivers just can’t hack it in NASCAR

The general rule of thumb, depending on the vehicle (modern fuel injection) is that you are better off to shut the engine off if you are going to idle for more than 10 seconds.
Older carbureted engines use more fuel to start but not THAT much.
