Not only does he get shot, but he gets shot within, like, two minutes of the second season.

He's playing a gangster who is out of his element trying to go legit, so I think "concentrating what little energy he has in making it sound like he's heard the words and phrases he's using before" is exactly what the character is trying to do, and exactly what Vaughn is going for.
