Pretty much every film based on actual events takes liberties in order to make things more interesting. Making Thompson more relatable was probably the right move here because it makes for more compelling drama.

The license fee is really great and cool in theory because it insulates Auntie from commercial and political pressure, but there’s been a deliberate campaign to manipulate public opinion against it. The problem is that there’s no compelling argument for how else to fund the BBC without opening it to those pressures.
