That’s my issue with this era of S4 - it’s just not that great to drive. Audis of this vintage still suffered from numb steering, and handling that was heavy on the understeer. The V8 and six-speed stick are great in principle, but the whole package is actually pretty lacking in driver engagement. I suppose the

The Germans are known for doing wonky and ridiculous things in their engineering.  This is a component of their obscene running costs in America.  Toyota has drank the German cool-aid and lost their way.  I want 90's Toyota back!

I think if I were super duper rich, I would buy interesting cars like this rather than new Lambos or Bentleys. I’d have a fleet of unreliable, yet compelling German cars. I’d get myself a w12 VW Phaeton and keep it running. Get a VW Touraeg. Get a BMW e38 with the V12.

You’d be out of your Avant gourd to pay more than $4,000 for this car.

It doesn’t matter how many times I see that picture, I am still horrified and left wondering “Why on earth would you make it like that?”

16 year old Audi with bad AC and 124K on the clock for $15K? Nice that the dreadful timing chain was done, but still lots of miles and many more things to go wrong, even if it’s beautiful. [PS-I hate the wheels]

For a weekend, you are using 44cuft of storage with 2 adults and 2 dogs...?!? I mean maybe this is why American buy so many monstruous SUV.

Having owned a b6 a4 avant (3.0, 6 speed) myself, I understand why someone would list this literal unicorn for so much. This car will screw you in ways you’ve never imagined. And you’ll be just as thankful for the 2 days out of the year when everything works right as you will when you eventually find the next sucker

The SS was the most under appreciated car of the decade. It was a great car. They just marketed it wrong.

Or Mercedes

Or Audi/BMW/Merc. I feel like they all do it really.

Now playing

I’ve seen a couple of Seltoses already. They’re...not bad looking. Apparently they cheaped out on some NVH engineering, though, and the dual-clutch trans is still not up to snuff. Ask your doctor if Seltos is right for you.

Man, I’d much rather talk about pies than SUVs.

People complained they were all awful, but that's different.

Technically, the Spark was never a sedan. It’s always been hatchback-only at least on the US market.

The majority of people cross-shop on price more than anything, especially people looking for a boring CUV. This Talos and the RAV4 have nearly identical MSRPs so I can definitely see the RAV4 eating this thing’s lunch.

really you should ask Jeep or Mazda, since they have quite a few options compact or smaller.

Or Chevrolet

I was thinking the same thing. But when I harken back to my days of selling Fords in the 90s, I remember how indifferent buyers were towards the Explorer Sport, which was just a 2 door Explorer. I wonder if giving it a totally separate name would have awakened  them out of their idiot stupor and kept their attention.

Not really. RAV4 splits the difference between Taos and Tiguan. It’s kind of a competitor to both, and if you don’t believe it’ll be cross shopped with the Taos, you’re fooling yourself.
