Yeah, I know Peep Show and That Mitchell & Webb Look.
He's very different, which makes comparison hard, which is good. Smith felt like he completely owned the role pretty much right away following a beloved Doctor though, which isn't the case with Capaldi.
I read somewhere (can't remember where now) that both of the first two episodes sucked, and that the third is awesome. I hated the first episode and really liked the second, so I don't know what to think. That Robin Hood stuff didn't quite look like it was up my street, but it can't suck as much as "Deep Breath".
I've only seen a handful of Tom Baker episodes, but I did get a bit of an acerbic Baker vibe from Capaldi during this episode.

"The bookies current favorite for a rumored new companion is Rose Leslie."
I do like the timey-wimeyness of The Doctor having ALREADY revisited that face.

Absolutely LOVED the scene where Algernon needs to get thread. LOVED. Punctuating it with Thack informing him that he had to instruct someone else how to perform a procedure he'd published a paper in was perfection. Watching Beard Boy and Whitney smoke a pig in the scene that led to that was my second favourite - this…
I'm sure he said (recently) that Holmes is fictional in the Whoniverse, and that was the reason. In fact, I'm sure of it, he said Vastra was the "real" equivalent that inspired the stories.
This article is suspiciously ungradeable.
