For whatever reason, the writers consider Ash winning a Pokémon League to be the series finale, which is why he keeps losing.

Apparently this movie is very casual about death. There’s a flashback where one character survives being trapped on a mountain because their Luxray froze to death keeping them warm.

There are more Pokémon that can talk. The Slowking from Movie 2 (who actually cameos in this movie) can talk. As can Manaphy, Hoopa, and that one Gastly from that early Kanto episode.

That’s assuming a) the next movie will be a sequel to this one, b) Marshadow will be in that movie too, c) Ash and Team Rocket actually meet, as they don’t in this movie.

He’s revived by Ho-Oh. It’s implied that he ends up in the weird dream dimension thingy is because of Marshadow.

Eh, it’s not as if this is gonna bleed over into the main series. And the anime has had dimensional screwiness resulting in Pikachu speaking before.
