To be fair to Deadspin, in the linked NBC News article, the son’s death is only mentioned in one sentence towards the end of the article. The majority of the story is that he’s been suffering from depression from years, including quotes from his ex-wife about it.

How is this not in the story. It’s in there that he was depressed from 10 years ago when he stopped playing with the bears, but his Son dies 1 year ago and that isn’t mentioned as a possibility to why he might be depressed!
