Back when the economy was semi-functional, I had a decent paying job and was able to get a pretty nice and sporty new car to suck up most of my paycheck.
What about a functional foundry, wind tunnel, test track, paint booth and go go dancers?
I'd say it is an appreciation of cars, but the degree of it and what people appreciate varies wildly. To some people maybe you have to be someone who likes getting your knuckles dirty, but others like driving or just looking.
There was one in Royal Oak, Mich last week, but I guess it makes more sense. There was also some full size VW pick-up roaming around.

I enjoy reading LeDuff, but I also have a friend who knows some of the people he wrote about in his book US Guys, and for some reason they felt he insinuated they were gay. They felt he sort of shows up, acts like a bad-ass and then writes whatever he wants.
