As I recall, she’s always claimed that she opposes employment discrimination against trans women. So we can keep our jobs, but since we’re really men, it’s OK to misgender us and make us continue to use the men’s room at work. How lovely.

There were plenty of “radical” white Sanders supporters on the Kinja sites four years ago blaming black voters who supposedly didn’t know what was good for them for Hillary defeating Bernie.

Yes.  A great many people despised that movie because it was so completely unrealistic.

Maybe that’s true of WASPs.  Not any Jew or Italian I’ve ever known.

I thought that’s what Bette Davis said when Joan Crawford died.

No, she was NOT fired simply for expressing her transphobic views publicly.  She was fired for insisting on always misgendering trans women, no matter how much pain and distresss she caused them.  Because it was supposedly a matter of principle with her.  As opposed to the sadistic glee that really lies behind TERF

I raised it because you used the term. Unnecessarily. I’m beginning to think you don’t know what it actually means. Do you think all lobbying — say, against anti-trans laws, largely in state legislatures, preventing their passage — constitutes influence-peddling? Do you think putting together the National Trans Survey

I’m not disputing that. I was simply wondering how what they do constitutes influence-peddling.

I vividly remember how awful it felt when I went through male puberty. At least I never grew much and my voice never really changed, both of which made transitioning a lot easier for me many years later. But otherwise it was torture.

Just curious: do you have any idea what kind of work NCTE actually does?

I didn’t think the first season was boring at all.  In fact, I liked all three previous seasons.  But, after already watching the first five episodes of the new season, I’m confident that this one is the best.

The term was invented by a cis woman who opposed those who claim that transphobia is a necessary element of both radical feminism, and feminism in general.

And if they find a person attractive until they find out that the person *used* to have a penis -- and there are many who take that position -- I’d say that they definitely have a problem with transphobia.

I can understand why they might want or need to for their own peace of mind. But it still feels to me like something of a betrayal of the victim. Or a disloyalty.  Especially when it happens so quickly, without any apparent understanding by the perpetrator that what she did was inexcusable.

As someone whose mother was a Holocaust survivor who lost 11 members of her immediate family — and never forgave or forgot for one second — my feeling is that only the actual victims have the right to forgive. And they can’t, because they were murdered.  Nobody has the right to forgive on their behalf.

Point taken, although I can’t think of a reason why her grandparents would support their position that she made up the story by pointing to something (what the security videos show) so easily disproven if it weren’t true.

Except that if you read the actual news stories, they all say that the security videos show that it didn’t happen, at least when and where she claimed it did.

I didn’t say a trans history is never relevant; I said it wasn’t relevant in my case. The problem was in my intestines, not my pelvis. And I don’t have “non-conforming” genitals that anyone might discover. Plus, if I were pregnant at my age it would be a miracle in more ways than one. Back when I first transitioned, I

I can’t imagine that such disclosure is necessary most of the time. I spent a week in the hospital a year ago with a C-difficile infection, and never once disclosed my trans history to anyone, either orally or in writing. (I simply left it out all the times I was asked to list all the surgeries I’ve ever had.) My own

You didn’t like the part where he talked about how important it is for parents to turn on the record player for their children at night so they can learn words?
