What is this Firefox sync app? I'd be interested.

Somewhat along these lines, does anyone have any suggestions on how to buy a new computer from a major manufacturer that is especially quiet? What specs or parts to look for or upgrades to make during the purchase process? With young kids I'm not really in a position to build my own computer or spend time taking mine

It's confusing to figure out how to start paring back on what of your friends' content shows up in your feed without unfriending them. There are some people I wanted to hear less from, so I started assigning my friends into FB's pre-made categories, "close friends" and "acquaintances." Then I started getting literally

You only have 50+ logins? I admire your restraint. I've accumulated nearly 400 over the years, although some of those belong to my wife.

Disregard. I had Tab Mix Plus set to "home page" rather than "new tab page." Fixed that and I'm all set.

Right, but I don't even know how to get that. I've seen that grid icon on web pages describing the new tab page but I don't know how to get there in my own browser.

Why am I not getting this new speed dial tab page? I reset my home page to the default, which shows as the Mozilla Firefox Start Page. I get a Mozilla page with a Google search box and a few options across the bottom like downloads, bookmarks, history, etc. But none of my most visited sites or whatever I'm supposed to

This is good stuff, and as a person who follows personal finance issues pretty closely and doesn't work in the field, there is a lack of "advanced" personal finance content for people in the space between being financially unhealthy (negative net worth, bad habits, etc.) and those seeking sophisticated or complicated

Ditto. This waiting for updates thing is a huge drawback of Android. Has me seriously considering a switch to the iPhone whenever I make my next purchase.

Got a question for Android users. I use Google Calendar Sync to sync my work Outlook calendar one-way to my Google calendar. I like my work appointments to show up on my GCal so I can see them from home - but not the other way around (don't want my assistant to see my personal appointments).

Other than an ick factor, I haven't seen one health issue brought forth in this whole discussion over pink slime. So my statement was pretty self-evident, we have in fact been eating this stuff for years without a problem.

What a callous viewpoint. There's no question this thing has been overblown - we've been eating this stuff for years without a problem. It's good that this issue has shown a spotlight on these additives/fillers in our food, but unfortunately the media picked up on some obscure "pink slime" term from a bureaucrat years

I don't necessarily think of "lifestyle inflation" as a bad thing.

If I may ask, since I haven't bought a new trimmer in years and I'm a much more discerning consumer now, do you think these trimmers that double as edgers handle the edging job adequately?

As it happens I'm in the market for a trimmer right now. We moved into a house with a much larger yard and more landscaping/edging. I hate the gas/oil mix thing with the fire of 10,000 suns and don't want to hassle with dragging extension cords around. I'll look into this.

I'm going from memory, but those numbers are rough approximations of our most recent auto loan, but there was a down payment involved too. Sorry, I should have stated before that it was meant as a rough example for discussion and not 100% accurate for mathematical purposes.

    Great points.

And, I would offer, very ignorant of their own behaviors and trigger points. That might be the real issue...even if most people don't do the math, they know that buying items such as the $500 bag you mention on credit is a bad thing. But they can't, or don't know how to, help themselves.

I think we're basically on the same page. My point is, I don't know that I'll ever be in a position - at least until my kids are out of college - where I can plunk down $25-30K cash for a car. But if I can get the same car with a $500/month loan payment for 3-4 years, and that $500/month is within my budget and still

If you're paying extra on principal, I don't think that counts toward debt-income. They're talking minimum/required payments.
