I'd like to say yes and sound effortlessly, intentionally cool

Your reviews were the ones that got me into reading AV club stuff. Thank you and for a fitting curtain call!

The last few seconds of Wedding Eve, I go… 'oh. Sam & Diane. I get it now' and I can't stop laughing at myself :D

You're right on the money, we don't know anything about that plot because the writers haven't propelled the crime lord plot in ages! It's so long ago, most viewers would have lost interest/not remember at this stage. Don't see why they did that. I think the assumption is that Rose and Derek have the same Dad, whom

That happened a lot more when she was with Rafael, because the two inspired and challenged each other. Jane eg. has a lot of preconceptions that people with money don't have values, which came up a lot when she was with Rafael. It reminds me a lot of sanctimonious and judgmental Rory Gilmore.

I feel like they lost track of the Crime Lord plot.
When Mutter appeared tonight my reaction was 'great, can we find out why she killed Sin Rostro already?'
We don't even know what her motivation is.
Also I don't find the direction they took Rafael realistic – making bad decisions, lying, utilising asshole ploys. He's

Don't find Xo's backwards stepping realistic.
I found that she evolved on her own last season, not just because of her relationship with Rogelio. Is is really supposed to be believable that she hasn't moved at all? Feel like the show's wobbling with Xiomara.

Ah, Nasim Pedrad, Nelson Franklin, Rebecca Reid, David Walton, Kal Penn! Stay like this show.

YES!!! Helmet is why New Girl used to be so good! Welcome back! *unjinx unjinx*

Despite some disparate elements, I felt this episode was the show getting back on track, with re-introducing the crime lord plot (finally!) and the Rafael-Jane co-parenting issues. Especially when Jane says 'my son' and Rafael says 'our son' illustrates all the stuff I felt they haven't addressed with Mateo's parents.

Oh and PS: So glad to see someone finally saying this in a sea of #TeamMichaels in these threads. Appreciate you doing this in the face of a possible outcry, I still agree that Michael is not well-developed enough for his creepster to 'normal nice guy' transition to be believable

This. I get that the actor is funny, but Michael Cordero… I dunno. He's not fleshed out enough. He never was. Even now when the writers are COMPLETELY losing their way with Rafael, he's still a more fully realised character than Michael ever was.

Roman had a twin brother Aaron Zazo, who turned out to be the one murdered (by Roman) in Chapter Two as Roman was straight up craycray.
I agree that the fight was tempered abruptly, it seemed to be about more and I also think Xo has matured beyond that type of storyline now.

'As I was taking soup in the second dining room'

I feel like the show's become repetitive.
They've lost their way with Rafael, his story lines are not engaging anymore. And Derek is such a wasted opportunity – so far, anyway.
Also, Petra and Anezka confronting Magda, but not asking if she lied about the dad too?
Rafael was so hurt by the issues with his family; Mutter,

Clavado en un bar?

Have to give a shout-out to Fancyman here. But mostly liked his stuff with the guys (True American).

I really liked watching Sam & Jess together this episode; their great chemistry reminded me of how good Season 2 was up until post-Cooler.

Where Friss Be?

I wouldn't say that it's always the case that relationships don't work, but I really agree with your depiction of the essence of the show. :) I also lean toward the indiewire piece (but that has no bearing on your comment of course, just in terms of the shows identity).
