What I got from the Borg/Horik subplot was that Ragnar's relationship with Horik was cracking already

More or less, it's true that he was playing everybody but he also grossly miscalculated the consequences of getting a bunch of chieftains in a bloodfeud

maybe it changes according to his mood, like Rorschach's face

it was misdirection. The problem is that the show established him being at the very least disappointed with Ragnar for religious motives, and he's the religious zealot of the show, so in the third season there should be at least some tension between them unless the show dismisses those scenes

but he was still a jerk to his wife in private, he praised Horik in front of her with no reason to lie. Narratively speaking, he should still be disappointing with Ragnar, unless of course weaving the plan brought them closer together, but even that's something the show hasn't shown.

I thought the episode was good but not great, the review is a pretty good summation: Floki's setup got somewhere but left a lot of damage to his own character and the show to do it.
