Lucas soon abandoned the idea of bringing in talented directors when Kirshner went off script on Empire. Lucas was always a corporate whore. He just never admitted it.

His dad owned a very successful business that he wanted George to take over. Lucas didn't want to be a businessman but an artist. Of course after the success of Star Wars, a businessman is exactly what Lucas became and didn't direct another film for 20 years.
I will say that the further Wes Anderson's films get into their own little worlds, the better they are. Otherwise they come off as quirky people being quirky for the sake of being quirky.
This. It's a combo of getting someone competent on the cheap.
There's no way a real human being came up with "$150 million dollar Bible movie directed by Darren Aronofsky" as an organic thought.

The original movie actually had several plots, as did the prequel series. They pretty much to grouped together all the clichés of the summer camp movie genre and hit them one by one. I think any problem people may have with the prequels is that the longer run time drew those joke plots out longer than the movie did.
I wouldn't say it's specifically about Jimmy. We've been given clues that it started after his wife left him. Now he's cut off both Jimmy and Howard. Howard was driven away just like Rebecca, and Chuck cast Jimmy out to keep the power there. The sickness seemed to be an excuse for Chuck's isolation outside the fact…
Cats are damn smart/manipulative that way. They will try different kinds of meows (different volumes, pitches, durations, etc.) until they find the one you react to and then continue using that one from then on out.
Or a dog?
