Crank worked because it was so different and unexpected. Having your lead die at the end is so anti-Hollywood. To have him resurrected in the next one to make more bank on the success of the first is very Hollywood. Lightning doesn't strike the same bottle twice…. or… something.

Well, there's good evidence to support that it forgot about the acting.

Norris is from an era when they were making athletes into movie stars. Quality didn't matter, and I think Norris played to his strengths and was aware of his weaknesses. When interviewed about 'Lone Wolf McQuade' he said that David Carradine 'is as good a martial artist as I am an actor'. He provided hokey action fun.

You're right. I forgot about that intro in the article. The Universal Soldier bit threw me off as they've been running that DtV franchise since the 90's.

Get the Gringo was gold. Mel Gibson's a crazy old drunk bastard, but he's still a damn fine actor.

I'm surprised that the 2002 French film 'The Nest' didn't get a mention. The funny thing about it is that it was influenced by Carpenter's 'Assault on Precinct 13' and in turn influenced the remake with Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne.

Frankenheimer proving that old school 70's style action still works.

Yeah, what I was about to say. Raimi and company tend to selectively omit/change things to benefit the current product.

Truly we are living in a Golden Age.

The first one was the best Mignola adaptation that could have made it to the big screen. The second one was definitely Del Toro's Hellboy.

My "quite some time" bit was more in reference to giving each Doctor having some free time written in for 'other adventures' to take place. That's, of course, not counting the time between series. There's some space between Rose-Martha and Martha-Donna too.

More like " make ______ explode".

They could do it if they just cut the right corners. Hellboy's make-up is pretty much going to have to be off brand Play-doh.

10 and 11 both ran around the TARDIS alone for quite some time before their time was up. 11 before facing the Impossible Astronaut and again after losing Rory and Amy, and 10 before meeting his Ood predicted demise. The anniversary special actually used a reference 10 made to the Ood at the start of his finale.

I now want a Doctor/Doof Warrior mashup.

Hinchcliffe/Holmes era is my favorite in Who. Talons of Weng Chiang, The Deadly Assassin, The Pyramids of Mars. That whole run had a great vibe that was even in other writers' scripts like The Robots of Death.

Let's not forget shooting the golden arrow in the Robin Hood episode.

I think there's an agreement with the Nation estate where they have to feature Dalek's once a series or lose the ability to use them. Otherwise, spacing them out is for the best. Tom Baker was on for 7 years and had, what, 2 Dalek stories.

"Why did I pay $50 to file reports and change the toner in the copier?"

Are they using the Rob Liefeld Captain America?
