As lame as this sounds, I will say this: I caught Quadrophenia live a few years ago, and to my surprise the show knocked my socks off. They were great, notwithstanding that Daltry chose to keep his shirt mostly unbuttoned.

Yeah, I love it when someone critiques a Dead studio album as if anyone expected it to hold a candle to the live performance. Aside from American Beauty and Workingman's, Dead studio output is a footnote to their accomplishments.

When I was a kid there was little I wouldn't do to score a Betty Board.

Yeah, my point was more that they made the practice normal. There's a great story about Garcia walking into an underground record shop in Berkeley, seeing Dead boots for sale, grabbing them and handing them out for free.

Studio albums aren't technically bootlegs. They aren't in any sense actually.

My favorite store-bought boot: Stones Bedspring Symphony (Belgium 72). God what a great recording. EDIT: they mention a version of it in the companion article — Brussels Affair. If any Stones fan hasn't heard it you should. It's glorious.

Huh? What makes you think I'm a he?

I won't defend Penn, yet I won't attack him either without a conviction. Innocent until proven guilty etc.

Like when Austin Powers says "yeah the time travel makes no sense. But it's a comedy so roll with it"

It's kind of like how in Sweden, the Swedish Chef on the Muppets is called the German Chef.

Right on NITB. Just what I was thinking.

The trouble is, in real life anyone who looks like Gere is extremely unlikely to ever be homeless. He could be paid to just sit there vacantly and let people look at him. Hey, I just described his acting!

Yup. And if Ocean Man is not part of the soundtrack you can count me out.

First prize DVD. Second prize 2 DVDs….

Not even this can bring Ween back together. Crap.

True story: I used to know a straight arrow guy who knew I love movies and sheepishly told me his brother in law is a screenwriter. "What has he written?" I asked. He replied, "some crappy movies, like The Jerk". I was rendered speechless.

Totally agreed.

Every one of them? Though in fairness, Yalies are often generalized as pocket protector wearing social misfits, so I can see the tension.

Must be. I may not shit about Duke, but I know something about the Dead. Greetings!

Sounds like sour grapes to me. I didn't have the grades to get into Duke, and I'm confident that someone who labels most or all Duke students assholes didn't either.
