It's absolutely sensible marketing. They know damn well that 1/3 of this film's potential audience will be people looking to be outraged. Even if they just complain about the film at Christmas dinner, it will promote it.

A 2010's Academy friendly pattern maybe. On the other hand "Manchester by the Sea" fits a 1970's Academy friendly pattern. "Silence" is 1980's. And "Fences" is 1950's.

But was it a great ACTION movie?
