The point of her character is that you NEVER EVER fully explain her. Its not what this show is about. We know very limited background on some of our characters (like how Hitchcock and Scully still have jobs). Whilst we have met Jake's parents, we have yet to meet Amy's or Rosa's and so on.

Which brings up back to earlier in the season where Boyle was telling Jake that he would be the 'Babys best friend'.
