That happened indeed, and then it stopped, when people realized those great jobs failed to materialize unless you were a medicine doctor or an engineer. Everyone's reverted to studying English, I think. Some adventurous spirits are learning Chinese.

That's correct too (except it being a horrible language, which is subjective. Personally I don't have an opinion. It is harder to learn than English, that much is true). I think we all drew the line on the language issue regarding Germany.
Absolutely correct.
He's utterly wasted in 1864. In every sense.
It's all but impossible to refrain from saying dak all the time once you watch a Danish TV show.
…And Egyptians learned everything they knew from aliens, who arrived form a galaxy far, far away.
He was probably glad to have someone to talk to.
That's a good point about Cooper. There's a vein of conservatism in movie stars, in playing it safe, taking few chances, etc. But that's not universal. Some stars make a point of avoiding a permanent persona, and they can be no less successful. Others widen their range once their looks begin to fade. Henry Fonda comes…
One could argue that range in acting isn't all. Some actors can play everything well, but nothing great. Some actors play one or two things amazingly, even if nothing else really. But it is acting all the same. Not even John Wayne could play "John Wayne" when he was young. In The Big Trail he fails miserably at that…
She was a "great, sometimes only good actress", Ms Davis, I think.
If a person says something unreasonable, you rebut it; if something hateful, you denounce it, and act accordingly, by not voting him or her, by supporting people who will act otherwise, etc. Booing adds nothing to the political debate. Only makes a person feel bad, and the other person feel smug.
I'd say it's the very same guy. Someone critical enough to tell the emperor he is naked and compassionate enough to care about people being insulted just because they are who they are. There is no contradiction.
That's the one.
I haven't seen it in ages, but I do remember how gorgeous it looks. If only for that it is worth watching.
I had lots of fun watching it. Call me shallow. George Carlin's cameo is sublime.
And now I want to watch it again. :)
You're not the only one. I saw it as a teen (the sex in the title did the trick I guess) and loved it ever since.
It's not bad, but Michael Shannon would be terrifying playing that.
Great epitaph! I've only read his Oral History of WWII, which I absolutely loved, of course.
Interesting point. Being European I couldn't care less about baseball, but the theme of popular sport corrupted by money is universal. I like Eight Men Out very much, though I prefer many of his other films…
