And in some ways the Zygon radicals' call to be recognized as they are can be considered allusions to the more radical aspect of the lgbt community.
To be honest, like the author I had a moment of "did she just leave what looked like domestic abuse without batting an eye?" moment, and than just chalked it up to a failure in the show's writing. I only realized what happened when she told the soldiers to neutralize the "eggs", which is waaay too far off from Clara.
To be fair, subtlety isn't a trait I would give Dr. Who as a show to begin with.

Just one thing, I know that everyone is going to be pissed at me for nitpicking here but as an Israeli there were two really annoying parts to the episode.
