There's nothing wrong with defending Depp at this point. He apparently doesn't have a history of domestic violence, which someone his age normally would if he were an abuser. There was no real evidence presented to support the accusation (which was dropped).

A creepier version of the Three Tenors.

Probably my parents being into a particular work would keep me away from it, but in general, that my parents were always reading made me want to read.

Your mom sounds awesome—nothing develops a child's passion for reading like having a parent who reads passionately.

You're preaching to the choir. Wonder Woman is a genuinely good action picture, and the only one that has been worth seeing in a long time, but the empty-headed CGI smashing of things on a big screen and surround sound which counts for a "big movie" these days is not my definition of state-of-the-art entertainment.

Same, though I'd rather people read anything than read nothing. Also, given this site's demographics, it is difficult to know who's reading what why. I'm sure a number of people here still read Hardy Boys books, but they probably read them because they are still young and still feel a little pull towards childhood

Totally agree.

I've heard that from a number of people, also that the books become progressively more complex to match the metal development of the reader. That first one, though—as an adult, I just couldn't stick with it.

Lol, particularly mind-bending dick. I can see your point, but isn't, say, The Wheel of Time colorful?

All true, I was throwing out examples of writing for adults. I wasn't as clear as I should have been.

Yeah, I realize I made it sound like I meant those specific writers, when I was grabbing at random fantasy writers writing for adults rather than kids.

Ugh, sorry, didn't mean to imply those specific writers as much as writers writing for an adult audience, some really complex in terms of intellectual concepts (Dick) some just writing more primarily for lighthearted reading (Bradbury).

I was an adult when the series was started—already in my thirties—and I never understood the fascination my fellow adults have with it. I'm not someone who thinks you're wasting your time if you aren't reading Crime and Punishment or Moby-Dick. I enjoy fantasy, and at any rate I don't think a book fails in its purpose

Nah. Your response does suggest hostility towards people who reject your views, though.

I remember that, too. However, a rumor started concurrently that he'd been Tom Cruise's lover and was given that role and hype as a parting present. Don't know if that rumor is true and/or is responsible for killing Crudup's chances, but I thought he had the talent and screen presence that earned him the right to

Still use Yahoo.

Which is why it's odd that people want to abolish the postal service, the one guaranteed method of private communication.

I know upvoting tells you I liked your post, but I still feel drawn back to tell you what a well-reasoned, insightful response it was. Thanks for a thoughtful comment.

In his movies, he refers to Middle Eastern men as "diaper heads."

Overall, thank you for kind words. I have to disagree about the issue of the relative size of the audience. I could argue the kind of movies a woman has audition with her clothes off for are also a small fraction of the movies released, and therefore that question is irrelevant. But it's moving the goal posts to make
