Quite an assumption on your part! I don't want to, and never do, use that word. I want people to have the freedom to use any word they like, and an open-mindedness on other people's part to put the words they hear in context with the point the speaker or writer is making.

I disagree with you. I've read your comments about this on another thread. I respect you, E, but I disagree with your interpretation.

It's ludicrous to want to be a rap or rock star and not expect your fans to emulate you.

Because different people have different responses, and that Pryor had one opinion—while still telling Eddie Murphy to tell Bill Cosby to "shut the fuck up" about cleaning up Murphy's language in his stand up—doesn't mean there aren't other black entertainers who are fine with it.

I still don't think he was wrong to use it. He didn't mean to be offensive. He was putting himself down. So the whole "he should know better now" argument doesn't work for me, as I don't think "certain words for certain people" is a thing worth knowing or adopting.

You can't be so dense as not to know the 55 year-old white man was a 25-year-old white boy when rap first hit popular culture in a big way. It's entirely possible he was listening to a lot of that music, and singing along with it, and thinking since he dug it, he was using the word their way not the plantation owner

You know, it isn't like rap cds in the past came with "Warning: this language is only for the people of our own race, and should not be appropriated by anyone of any other race who enjoy our music."

I think that's part of it. But I think the left stupidly, stupidly, stupidly goes after many of its own people. And I think sacrificing CK is a part of that.

People have fairly recently been willing to call CK on it. But it's not like this public lynching for using certain words started last week. He got by with a lot because people decided "he's allowed." He's getting flack more recently because there's a whole aspect of media spokespeople on the left who like to eat

I disagree, but *shrug* exception proves the rule?

I hate most of the cartoons on Adult Swim, but don't begin to understand who gets to decide any given one is "more offensive than they should be."

I really don't know enough about him to judge him. I know there's talk of his running for President in 2020.

Bad skin? Body odor?

FFS, Al Franken. I like that at least Ice Cube is going to go on the show and address the issue.

You don't like him—he has to be guilty!

Mentally deranged nephew "confesses" with the plot of a paperback novel. Yeah, that's proof!

I admire you acknowledge your ignorant of the legal system and the circumstances of this case. It takes a big person…

But having served time in prison is ineligible to vote.

Poor Dassey! He's clearly repeating the plot of a popular novel, and has no clue what's going on. When he asks if he can now head back to class and take that test, it breaks my heart.

Yup.
